Myth: Coaching is for people who are struggling. Fact: Most people who hire a coach are already doing well and have hit a ceiling they cannot see from inside. Struggling is not the entry criterion. Being stuck is, and those are different problems with different fixes. If the same issue has followed you into a new team, that is the tell.
Photo brief. Split card, restrained typography. Red MYTH half, green FACT half, no stock photography of people looking thoughtful. Plain background, one accent colour.
Myths your customers believe
Posts that correct a myth earn trust. Your plan includes them, with your business name attached.
Myth. Coaching is for people who are struggling
Fact. Most people who hire a coach are already doing well and have hit a ceiling they cannot see from inside. Struggling is not the entry criterion; being stuck is.
Myth. A coach tells you what to do
Fact. A consultant tells you what to do. A coach asks the questions that make you say it yourself, which is the only version you will act on.
Myth. You need a long programme for it to work
Fact. Six focused sessions with homework beat twenty comfortable conversations. What matters is what changes between sessions, not how many there are.
Myth. Results depend on the coach
Fact. Results depend on what you do in the six days you are not in the room. A good coach makes that work clearer, not lighter.
How to choose a coach without being sold to
- Ask what they will not help with, and listen for a real answer
- Ask for two past clients you can actually speak to
- Bring one specific problem to the first call and see whether they solve it or pitch
Questions your customers ask
How is this different from just talking to a smart friend?
A friend wants you to feel better. A coach is paid to notice what you are avoiding and say it out loud, then hold you to what you said you would do.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people see the shape of it in six. We agree the goal and the number up front, and we review at the halfway point rather than at the end.
What happens in the first session?
We define what would have to be true in six months for this to have been worth it, in specific terms. If we cannot write that down, we do not start.
Do you work online or in person?
Both. Online sessions are the same length and the same work; most clients settle into a mix once they have met in person once.
What if it is not working?
Say so at the halfway review, which exists for exactly that. We either change the approach or we stop, and stopping is a legitimate outcome.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, including from an employer who is paying. What gets reported back is attendance and agreed goals, never the contents of a session.
Do you guarantee results?
No, and be careful of anyone who does. What we commit to is showing up prepared, telling you the truth, and stopping early if it is not working.
How do I know you are qualified?
Ask for the credential, the hours logged and two clients you can speak to. Ask every coach you are considering, including this one.
