Myth: Shinier cashews are fresher cashews. Fact: Shine usually means the kernel has been polished with oil. Rub one on a white cloth. Polished leaves an oily mark. A good cashew is matte, ivory-white, and snaps instead of bending. Come and do the test on our open stock before anything is weighed.
Photo brief. Split card. Left, a glossy polished cashew on white cloth with a visible oil mark. Right, a matte kernel snapped clean in half. Shot close, natural light, no filter.
Myths your customers believe
Posts that correct a myth earn trust. Your plan includes them, with your business name attached.
Myth. Shinier cashews are fresher cashews
Fact. Shine usually means the kernel has been polished with oil. A good cashew is matte, ivory-white and snaps cleanly.
Myth. All cashews are the same, the price is just the shop
Fact. Cashews are graded by how many whole kernels make a pound. W180 is the largest, W240 next, W320 smaller. Ask which grade you are being sold.
Myth. Soaking almonds is an old wives' tale
Fact. Soaking softens the skin and makes them easier to digest. Whether it changes the nutrition is argued about; whether it changes the texture is not.
Myth. Dry fruit does not go bad, it is dry
Fact. The oil in nuts turns rancid. That stale, bitter smell is not dust, it is the fat oxidising, and no amount of drying brings it back.
How to tell fresh nuts from old stock
- Smell first: fresh smells faintly sweet, old smells like paint or crayon
- Snap a kernel; fresh breaks cleanly, stale bends
- Look at the colour, because darkening and oily patches mean it has been sitting
Questions your customers ask
How do I know these cashews are not polished?
Rub one on a white cloth. Polished kernels leave an oily mark and look glossy. Ours are matte and snap rather than bend.
What is the difference between W180, W240 and W320 cashews?
The number is how many whole kernels make up a pound, so a lower number means a larger kernel. W180 is the premium grade. All three are whole cashews; the difference is size, not quality.
How should I store dry fruit at home?
Airtight containers, away from the stove and out of the sun. In the monsoon and through summer, keep nuts in the fridge; the oil in them turns rancid faster in heat.
How long does it actually keep?
Around six months for most nuts in an airtight jar at room temperature, and closer to a year refrigerated. Dates and raisins last longer; walnuts turn fastest.
Are Mamra almonds worth the price?
They are smaller, denser and more expensive because the yield is lower. Whether they are worth it depends on whether you can taste the difference, so buy a small quantity first.
Do you make Diwali gift hampers?
Yes, and you choose what goes in. We will tell you the weight of the contents against the weight of the box, because that is the number most hampers hide.
Can I buy loose rather than packed?
Yes. We will still put the packing date on the bag, so you know what you are storing.
Is your stock FSSAI compliant?
Yes, and the licence number is displayed in the shop and printed on packed goods. Ask to see it any time.
